PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious cup on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille fired two times late to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the final seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to complete a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
