Individual admits sex offences against children at youth camp
A man who spiked sweets with sedative and provided them to youngsters at a summer program in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two young males both nine and 10.
The defendant was detained after eight children and an older person became sick at the facility in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was held in detention prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.
She explained his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a youth camp which he operated.
The defendant engaged in a "candy game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor stated, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She told the court the man had played this game with the young males "for many years", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the next day.
She explained the man had been able to explain this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had suspicions in recently.
Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.
"They decided to investigate in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC said items including lubricant, Vaseline and medical needles were located, and his family member contacted the authorities about his suspicions.
She said Ruben continued to engage in the "candy game" with six children that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the next day.
"The police had not gone out by that point," she continued.
The police watchdog, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
Mrs Prior stated the children were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the family member contacted the police a second time.
She explained the man then played the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
