Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Group
Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, demons, and dark forces growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of heroes who will separate from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.
This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might seem out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
First, the team understands precisely where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.
The traitor then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the region and advises that it is a nasty environment.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could enable the party enter locations they usually can’t.
- Additionally, Teor swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This leaves them little choice but to travel to the northern region in search of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Explorers and Planners groups.
Fans can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
